St. Vincent Project
For the 25th year, GMA helped plan Christmas activities for the families of the St. Vincent de Paul parish in Germantown. The St. Vincent Project provides gifts for the parishes’ families as well as lighted Christmas trees to spread holiday cheer in the church during Christmas masses. Our students and families also donated clothing and gifts so that individuals could “shop” for specific items to gift to their loved ones.
Seventh and 8th graders made individual contributions in addition to funds raised by bake sales, dress down days, and poinsettia sales coordinated by Student Council and the National Junior Honor Society. Thank you to Mrs. Anne Crotty, Mrs. Kathy Foy, and Mrs. Judy O’Neill for guiding Student Council as well to Mrs. Mary Higgins and Mrs. Kate Kroszner who are the National Junior Honor Society moderators.
Another special thank you to Mrs. Carol Reckner and Mrs. Heather Hoover for planning the event and coordinating the student and parent volunteer activities. The Parents’ Org donated the decorated Christmas trees and coordinated delivery to St. Vincent’s.
Basketball Snack Stand
The Facilities and Sports Liaison Team runs the snack stand for all home basketball games throughout the season. Proceeds from the snack stand goes towards sports-related purchases. Recently, Parents’ Org funded the purchase of a large outdoor sports tent with GMA signage and new uniforms for the Girls’ Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams.
Back by popular demand, Parents’ Org sold a 2018 edition of Kitty Kelly ornaments during the Christmas holiday season. This year’s edition commemorated the favorite GMA tradition of a “Great Day in Bethlehem.” The ornaments are still available for purchase online.
A Great Day in Bethlehem
It was another Great Day in Bethlehem on December 18th. The 1st graders touched the hearts of the audience with their joyous reenactment of the arrival of Jesus and the 8th graders performed a Christmas Tableau that captured the beauty and grace of the season. The star of the tableau was our own Tara Miller’s baby, Hunter Miller, who played baby Jesus. Thank you to the Social Programs Team for providing delicious holiday refreshments for the GMA community.
Grandparents & Special Friends Day
On December 20th, Grandparents and Special Friends were invited to GMA watch the students perform; a good time was had by all! Thank you to Mrs. Lindsey Rauch, Director of Curriculum and Student Life for coordinating the day as well as to the Social Programs Team for providing refreshments.
Due to uncooperative weather, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day service activity, the “sock roll” challenge planned in conjunction with the Giving Tree, was postponed until Catholic Schools Week. Thank you to the Mercy Connections Team and Ms. Liz Sher, Director of Mission and Religious Formation, for planning the special community service project. Thank you to Mrs. Bridget Leary for overseeing the collaboration between GMA and the Giving Tree.
On January 25th, Parents Org sponsored another fun Trivia Night. This year, attendance increased by 60 with a total attendance of 160 generating a profit of $3,800. Proceeds from Trivia Night, which is coordinated by the Social Programs Team, helps support Parents’ Org sponsored events throughout the year. Thank you to all who attended and congratulations to the winners!
Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools week kicked off on Monday, January 28th with a special visit from Mr. Sam Sandler, a magician, inspirational speaker and America’s only full-time deaf illusionist who performed DEAFinitelyMagic. This award-winning visit was coordinated by the Enrichment Programs Team.
Mrs. Kathleen Hannan and Mrs. Rebecca Villano transformed the gallery into a winter wonderland on January 30th. The 8th graders served wonderful meals to the GMA faculty and administration to thank them for their dedication and hard work. They provided hospitality and entertainment. Parents’ Org was honored to help fund the luncheon by donating $1,800 towards expenses. Thank you also to the many 8th grade parents who worked with Mrs. Hannan and Mrs. Villano to make the luncheon a success.
STEM Night & Open House
A special thank you to Mrs. Debora Speese and Mrs. Bethanne Connolly for planning a fantastic evening for the current and prospective GMA families! The evening showcases our teachers, students, and facilities and Parents’ Org was thrilled to fund the evening. The Membership and Enrichment Programs Teams dedicated their efforts to assist with planning for the evening as well as offering food options. We would like to thank the dedicated GMA faculty who spent their evenings to running the various STEM stations. In additional to introducing our wonderful GMA community to potential families, the evening also allowed current families to visit different classrooms and interact with teachers from various grades.
Bingo will take place in the gym on Thursday, March 14th at 6pm. Please see Mercy Memos for additional information or buy your Bingo cards here.
Bingo is a fun and energetic night for the GMA community. Bingo is so important as it is Parents’ Org’s largest fundraiser and the only one where children are directly involved. Last year, Bingo Night funded $6,000 in scholarship donations to CAP (College Assistance Program) at Project HOME. The donations helped assist funding the college education for four individuals. Parents’ Org is finalizing the net profits raised that evening and we will share with you the final data.
The Parents’ Org is very mindful of the many generous donations that you have already made and time you have given this school year. Without you, these fun, meaningful events wouldn’t be possible. Thank you for making a difference for our children and our community.
